Message from the European Green Party on Suruc Massacre

Following the terrorist attack that took place in the Turkish town of Soruc, the Co-Chairs of the European Green Party, Monica Frassoni and Reinhard Bütikofer, comment:

“We express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the youth activists who were killed in Soruc on Monday. Most of these victims were committed to the fight for democracy and peace, not only in Syria, but also in Turkey.

“The tragic events that played out and the increasing tension in Turkey demonstrate that the country’s Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdogan, has to move beyond his ambiguous stance towards DAESH and come out with a clear position against this terrorist group, thereby stopping to use it as a tool for his internal disputes with the Kurds. He must also defend his citizens, irrespective of their ethnic or religious origin, and start playing a more positive role in the region.

“This latest attack should be considered a wake up call to resume and speed up the process of peace building in the country, and the Turkish government must now do everything within its power to avoid an escalation of violence.

“Resuming the peace talks with representatives of the Kurdish people that had originally started in 2012, with more energy and zeal, remain the best option for all to achieve a positive outcome. The European Union must also play its part in supporting the process.

“A new civic coalition was formed in Turkey, entitled the ‘Peace Bloc’. Made up of several political parties, democratic organisations, labour and trade bodies, NGOs, as well as intellectuals and artists, it will organise a peace march in Istanbul on 26 July to condemn the terrorist attack.

“The European Green Party stands in solidarity with the march, and with people who are yearning for freedom and peace all over the world, in particular the Middle East.”

Solidarity Message from GUE/NGL (EP) Members to HDP

EELV Calls to Vote for HDP

Parliament elections come to pass on June 7th in Turkey and until May 31st for the citizens of Turkey residing abroad. These elections are the occasion to advance ecology, the democracy and peace in Turkey.

The Ecology Party, Yeșiller ve Sol Gelecek Partisi, member like EELV of the Green Party European, decided to take part in these elections in coalition with several political parties and movements citizens progressists having in heart to defend the rights of minorities, of the women, the children, the workers,  LGBT community and of course to protect the environment.

This coalition, Peoples’ Democratic Party, HDP, all the more deserves the support of all the voters since is it the only one able to call into question the hegemony of  AKP. Indeed, particulary unjust Turkish electoral system prohibits numerous parties having less than 10% of the votes to enter to the Parliament and redistributes the seats mainly between leading parties.

EELV thus calls all those  which have voting right  to go to theTurkish  consulates  before May 31st and to help  HDP to cross this threshold of 10%, to prevent the AKP from modifying the Constitution with its own way, to call into question the nuclear power and all the great projects which seriously endanger nature in Turkey and in its neighbors (3rd airport, 3rd bridge, Istanbul channel, election threshold… etc.) and to make progress the peace process with Kurdish. The voters  living out of Turkey can tip the scales.

Lastly, EELV particularly supports the 24 candidates of Yeșiller ve Sol Gelecek Partisi and especially Saruhan Oluç chief candidate HDP in the district of Antalya. If the HDP passes the threshold, he will be the first deputy ecologist of the history of Turkey.

The Middle East, the Kurdish Peace Process in Turkey, and Radical Democracy

The resolution of the Kurdish Problem is part and parcel of Turkey’s democratization and vice versa. Despite claims made by the AKP government that the process is close to resolution, there have been limited concrete and practical gains. According to the author, the Peace Process requires a historical understanding of the key dynamics of the conflict, the opportunity for dialogue, and a transparent negotiation process. The author presents democratic autonomy as an idea that goes beyond the nation-state, and represents a further demand: a progressive step for Kurds as well as for the people of the Middle East.

Congratulations to Syriza

Dear Alexis Tsipras,

As Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), we congratulate you and all people of Greece on your behalf because of the historical victory you got in the general elections held on 25 January. We believe that the principles of justice, equality and liberty which you have claimed will overcome neo-liberal Troika’s press imposed on Greece people.

As two sister parties adopting itself the motto of equality and freedom of all the oppressed people, we attach importance to the solidarity and strategic cooperation between HDP and Syriza. We believe that all kinds of oppression and injustice which are imposed to the peoples of the world by global capitalist system can be eliminated by strong alliances and solidarities established between libertarian and egalitarian formations occurring anywhere in the world.

We wish you success in your way and we greet you and all people of Greece with our fraternal feelings.

We Wish SYRIZA a Great Success

The snap election on the 25th of January will give a chance to people of Greece to oust the austerity government and replace it with a SYRIZA government, government of people

SYRIZA (Radical Left Coalition) is the only political party that gives hope of change to the people of Greece who are trying to survive under the pressure of the Troika (IMF, EU, ECB) for years. We strongly believe that with the decision of people of Greece, SYRIZA will win this election and spread the hope of change to the neighbouring countries and to all Europe.

As Peoples’ Democratic Party, once again we would like to say that we are in solidarity with SYRIZA and wish all the good luck in this election.
