We are deeply concerned and saddened by recent incidents happened today in Elazığ, a few days ago in Van and Diyarbakır. Turkey is led to a state of heavy clashes and deaths everyday step by step.

Urgent Call for Solidarity on the Closure and Storming of the Daily Özgür Gündem

img_20151116_152354.jpgOn August 16, 2016, Erdoğan regime’s attack on the media and press since the July 15 abortive coup took a different turn by the closure of the daily Özgür Gündem on court orders and the storming of its Istanbul headquarters by special operations police. The quarter-of-a-century-long history of Özgür Gündem represents all there is to know about the militant censorship of information and press under the state of emergency lawnessness in the context of the Kurdish conflict in Turkey. It also represents a venerable and dedicated press tradition of struggle and solidarity for the right to information and freedom from censorship. Continue reading

The way to avoid military coups ever again passes through defeating the male-dominant, militarist mentality that uses any means for its power.

Streets are valuable if thousands of women are there with their ideas, attitudes and differences.

Dear Press Members,

On July 15, those who seek for the power to create the political change not in the struggle of the people, but in military power and military coup d’état created a setting of violence, leaving wounded people behind. We wish a swift recovery for all those injured. We would like to express that we share the sorrow of those who lost their beloved ones. Continue reading

The Way Out of This Crisis is not Declaring State of Emergency, but Democracy

img_20151116_152354.jpgFive days after the coup attempt on 15th of July, the NSC and Council of Ministers declared a state of emergency in the country. This step shows the coup attempt might have been blocked, but the desire to rule the country with coup-like, authoritative mentality is not.
In this period Turkey will be ruled by Decree-laws against the constitution, the Council of Ministers will be chaired by the President, the jurisdiction of governors will be increased, and vital universal and democratic human rights will be violated while the Turkish Presidential System will be imposed without restraint. Thus, the coup attempt has become a tool and opportunity for the government to purge all opposition and limit democratic rights and freedom.

The Only Solution is Democratic Politics!

img_20151116_152354.jpgIn this challenging and critical days which Turkey goes through, whatever its reason might be, no one should put himself in the place of the people’s will.

The HDP is opposed to any kind of coup under any circumstances and as a principle.

Turkey immediately needs to embrace a pluralist and liberal democracy, domestic and external peace, universal democratic values and conventions. There is no way but claiming democratic politics.
