The Round-the-Clock “Curfews” in Kurdish Provinces of Turkey


To Whom It May Concern,

The round-the-clock “curfews” (read: indefinite military siege of entire settlements) in Kurdish cities of Turkey since August 2015 continue with full force, which is a clear violation of the Turkish law and Constitution. As of March 23, 2016, sixty-one “curfews” were declared in 7 cities and 21 towns for a total of 649 days. Currently, the city of Şırnak, five neighborhoods in Sur district of Diyarbakir, and the towns of İdil, Yüksekova and Nusaybin are held under round-the-clock “curfews,” while nighttime curfews continue in Cizre and Silopi between 7:30pm and 5:00am. At least 487 civilians have been killed in “curfew zones” alone since August 2015. Together with these casualties, the politics of war initiated by the AKP government have caused the death of at least 749 civilians, including 97 children and 96 women. Continue reading


We condemn the Massacre in Brussels!


We condemn vehemently the brutal and inhuman terror attacks that hit the capital city of Belgium, Brussels today.

We would like to make sure that we firmly stand in solidarity with the Belgian people and all peoples of Europe in these dark days. Our hearts are with those who lost their lives and their beloveds in these heinous attacks.

Newroz Celebrations Cannot be Banned…


In these most distressful days for our country and our peoples, full of grief and losses of lives, celebrations for Newroz are underway. Newroz is a holiday celebrated by various peoples in various geographies, particularly in Mesopotamia, as the harbinger of spring. On the other hand, as a result of the oppressive and repressive policies by the AKP government, the celebrations have been prohibited in several cities. Appeals are rejected time and again, either with reasons, which are far from being satisfactory or without stating any reason at all. Continue reading

HDP: We Condemn Today’s Bombing in Ankara


We condemn today’s bombing in Ankara. Unfortunately, many lost their lives or injured as the attack targeted our fellow civilian citizens.

We share this great pain with all our people. We express our condolences for the victims and wish quick recovery for the wounded.

We assert that all this pain brought on our people will not deter us from brotherly feelings, and once again we strongly condemn the attack.
