Urgent Call to National and International Public Opinion on the Situation in Cizre


To the press and public opinion,

For the last eight days, we have been making every effort to have our dead and seriously wounded citizens who are trapped in the basement of an apartment building in Cizre—among them many dead and seriously wounded—transferred to hospital. Our efforts to clear what that is being called the basement of savagery (vahşet bodrumu) have continued again today without interruption from 7 am until 3 pm. Continue reading

Hunger Strike by HDP MPs

Mr KÜRKÇÜ (Turkey):  I draw the Assemblys attention to the ongoing conflict and unacceptable human rights violations in Turkeys south-eastern districts, which are mostly inhabited by Kurdish people. In those districts and provinces, a new wave of violence has erupted after the suspension of peace talks between the PKK leader Öcalan and the Turkish Government, which was advised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe during the 2013 discussion of the progress report on Turkey. Our Application to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe


To the attention of Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has already given the decisions of interim measures regarding the Turkish Government in responsibility of right to life and the right to protect the physical integrity of the applicants in its judgements of Paksoy v. Turkey, Tunç v. Turkey, Altun v. Turkey where the lawyers lodged the applications relying on the States acts in breach of protecting right to life and supplying medical care to injured civilians within the scope of the proceeding curfews. In its decision on interim measure to the Altun v Turkey Court indicated to the Government to carry out its duty until 02 February 2016. Continue reading

Dear Mr. Sariyildiz,

Many thanks for the very kind invitation to visit Southeastern Turkey.  As perhaps you know, I have been there several times on missions to investigate the harsh and sometimes very brutal repression there.  I appreciate the invitation to do so again, but I am afraid that circumstances make it impossible for me now, though I am following the situation very closely and doing what I can from here.

I very much hope that the current very dangerous trajectory can be reversed, and quickly, before even more damage is done.
